At a recent South Texas Manufacturers Association meeting at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton in McAllen, Janie Cavazos, vice president of business recruitment for the Pharr Economic Development Corporation (EDC), revealed plans for ten new industrial parks.
These parks will add almost 11 million square feet of warehouse space, including cold storage and dry warehouses. Six parks will be within Pharr’s city limits, while the remaining will be in its extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ).
Pharr EDC, along with the Pharr Bridge Board, will officially announce the details at the next Warehouse Summit in October. This effort continues to position Pharr as a critical hub for international trade and development.

Phar Celebrates Greenway´s Milestone

Pharr’s cold storage capabilities are expanding, thanks to a planned construction by LakeWay Produce’s sister company, Greenway Construction. Over two phases, the building will grow from an initial 50,000 square feet to a final 94,000 square feet of cold storage space.
The construction comes on the heels of another Greenway-built cold storage facility that opened earlier this year with a total of 44,000 square feet of space. Ramon Mery, CEO of LakeWay Produce and Greenway Construction has publicly praised Pharr and the surrounding area for providing an environment where produce companies can be “more competitive, more efficient, and better positioned.”

What Pharr EDC President Victor Perez calls a “regional” project could include a number of RGV cities, including Donna, Weslaco, Edinburg, and potentially others. It would join 4 other FTZs in the Rio Grande Valley, in a response to the growth of activity at the Pharr International Bridge.
While the timeline for the project is not yet set. he FTZ designation will provide companies with cost-saving benefits, including exemptions on duties and tariffs for imported goods. Pharr-San-Juan-Alamo Independent School District students recently attended the City of Pharr’s third annual Manufacturing Day, hosted at the Pharr Development and Research Center to celebrate National Manufacturing Day.

WinTex Tooling Technologies Announces Rebrand, Company’s Continuation in Pharr, Texas

Pharr, Texas – WinTex Tooling Technologies, previously known as Windsor Mold Texas, announces its company name change and rebrand, after its parent company, Windsor Mold Group was sold in March 2023.
The Pharr, Texas, plant is the only location that was excluded from the sale, which led to the company name change and rebrand as WinTex Tooling Technologies (WinTex). WinTex assures its customer base that it will continue operating with the same operational team and the same quality level of service as it has been for more than 30 years.
“WinTex Tooling Technologies will continue to serve all our customers with the same quality and on-time delivery moving forward,” said WinTex General Manager Stew McKee. “The team here at WinTex remains the same and are commited and ready for the next 30 years here in Pharr, Texas,” he added.

Pharr EDC Launches Support For Cross-Border Investors

The Pharr EDC launched the Pharr Economic Initiative, and paved the way for investors in Mexico to take advantage of the business opportunities right across the border, with a highly successful 1a Cumbre de Negocios in July 2023.
The summit, held in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, brought together investors in Mexico, the Pharr EDC, and their relevant partners to help investors facilitate the process of nearshoring operations in Pharr.
The summit addressed some of the biggest obstacles and questions facing Mexican investors who wish to expand their businesses across the border, and highlighted Pharr as a strategic partner in this endeavor.
Topics of the summit included the following:

Pharr EDC Earns Community Economic Development Award

For their role in Pharr’s broadband initiative, TeamPharr.net, the Pharr EDC earned a Community Development Award (CEDA) from the Texas Economic Development Council (TEDC) on October 20.
A collaborative project between the City of Pharr and the Pharr EDC, TeamPharr.net serves as an innovative and affordable way to connect families within Pharr to online opportunities such as school, work, and healthcare.
The Pharr EDC earned their CEDA award in the category of Secondary Benefits, and earned merit recognition for outstanding achievements in Economic Development.
“There was a lot of good competition in the category for Pharr,” says Raudel Garza, TEDC Board Member. “What made Pharr stand out is that it was very unique in its outreach to the community.”
Pharr’s broadband project is now serving as a model for other communities who are looking into their options for creating broadband connectivity. The Pharr EDC provided the funding that made TeamPharr.net possible.
“I’m very proud of the EDC and also the city of Pharr, for all its leadership,” says Pharr Mayor Dr. Ambrosio Hernandez, “for thinking ahead, for thinking not only about business but also about community development, where everybody can win.”
