Pharr EDC resurrects plans to create a new Foreign Trade Zone

The Pharr EDC and Hidalgo County are resurrecting plans to establish a new Foreign Trade Zone in the area, aiming to enhance economic growth and attract businesses.

What Pharr EDC President Victor Perez calls a “regional” project could include a number of RGV cities, including Donna, Weslaco, Edinburg, and potentially others. It would join 4 other FTZs in the Rio Grande Valley, in a response to the growth of activity at the Pharr International Bridge.

While the timeline for the project is not yet set. he FTZ designation will provide companies with cost-saving benefits, including exemptions on duties and tariffs for imported goods. By creating this zone, Pharr hopes to increase trade and investment opportunities, further solidifying its position as a strategic hub for international commerce.
